The death plaque has been once mounted, hole in the top, and lovingly polished over the years by a family member. WW1 Casualty Silver War Medal. 2nd Lieutenant H.M.Owen. 9th Batt/ Cheshire Regiment.
Herbert Morris Owen was born at Oswestry in 1897 enlisting in the Gloucester Hussars in 1916. Commissioned into the 9th Bn Cheshire Regiment in 1917. Owen died of wounds on the 25th of March 1918 a couple of days after seeing action during Operation Michael, Kaiser Offensive. His brother was also an officer being killed in 1917.
