WW2 German Enlisted Man's Personalised RAD Hewer. Eickhorn.
The blade has a certain amount of staining from being sat in its scabbard for so many years. The motto is 100% complete with sharp detail as are the numerous details to the other side including the Carl Eickhorn trade mark. The cutting edge might well have had a sharpening but it's so faint I'm not quite sure, tip to the blade is period. Top leather washer is missing. The solid nickel crossguard and mounts have taken on a very dark tone similar to aged silver, don't believe this example has ever been cleaned postwar, you will find a few tiny "dinks" and wear to the top beak. Where the issue number can be found the owner has had his initials etched over the number, looks like an entwined "HK". The staghorn grip plates have no chips or cracks and again taken on a dark tone. The scabbard body has over 50% of its black finish with the nickel mounts taking that dark patina like the dagger, no dents. The screws are period with one being loose to the bottom mount. Alas the number on the dagger does not match the number found on the scabbard. This is how I like to find them, untouched and with plenty of patina, with this example being brought into me last week by family members who where helping there mother declutter her house. The mother had no idea where it came from and was a bit surprised to find it!
