Victorian Queens South Africa Medal. 70th Company, Sharpshooter, Imperial Yeomanry. Cardiff?

Medal is in nice condition with sharp detail having taken on a dark patina from years of sitting around. The top two clasps are held on by what I belive is a period repair using wire. Side stamped details are clear and are as follow... 28234 TRP J. THOMAS. 70TH Coy IMP. YEO. The ribbon is its period example, stained and with remnants of bluetak to the back.
This medal was brought into me by a lad doing house clearance in the local area of Cardiff so with a surname like Thomas I presume he might well have been a local lad.
