French 1866 Pattern ''Chassepot'' 2nd Empire Bayonet. Matching Numbered.
Manufactured during the 2nd Empire and Franco Prussian war by the firm Imperiale de Chatellerault with a date of 1869 to the spine of the blade. The condition is very good with the blade having a bright finish with no staining and a very clear spine inscription. The cross guard has nice finish and clear markings including rifle number. Brass grip is clean with working fixing spring and clear number stamped to the top of the receiver channel. The steel scabbard again with a very nice finish and no dents. The top has two rifle numbers, one has been struck out and a new number matched to the bayonet has been struck by a French armourer. A very nice and lightly used early produced example.
